yea looks kinda shady. maybe i can go with atx to help you get rid of that cpu. i am making a mythtv setup. so its going to be in a desktop case with the rest of my home entertainment pieces. i will look around no rush.

I have the same issue, intermittantly. Sometimes the FF, RW works properly and sometimes it works as you described. Almost always on the first use of the FF function I geet this problem. Using it again it works correctly. This is just to tell you it's probably not related to your pvr 350 or ivti, as I'm using an ATI TV wonder pro with software encoding. Also I'm using myth .17, nowhere near svn.

I don't know if this is a MythTV or ivtv issue. I'm running a fairly recent svn version of MythTV (with broken Live TV that I don't use anyway), and when I fast forward (or rewind) in a recorded program the video moves along quickly, but the time counter moves at the normal pace (e.g. 1 second per second) and then when I exit Fast Forward it jumps back to the place I started at (or nearby). I *don't* have the option to correct for reaction time enabled.

Jumping forward or backward works fine; it's only FF and REW that don't.

I'm using the PVR-350's MPEG decoder, if it matters (xv still doesn't look quite right to me). Are they any settings I should check?

I use Brighthouse/TWC in Central Florida and they disable the firewire
port on the SA 8300. This box also has very ugly output on the s-video
port for 16:9 HD channels. It puts gray boxes on the top/bottom for the
widescreen.

I'm running Mythtv ver 0.18.1.20050523-1 with FC4 on an Dell Intel P4.

I run a scheduled recording (Letterman) M-F and automatically transcode.
Problem is that there is almost always a recording of the five weekly that
is between 37 and 38 minutes in length versus the norm of 60 minutes. I
haven't tracked it closely enough to be sure but it seems to always be
either the Thursday or Friday show that is short.

Here is something odd (to me), Nautilus file browser lists all recorded
shows as nuv documents. If I highlight over one of these odd recordings, the
file type changes from nuv document to MPEG video. File size is 1.4GB,
normal is usually a little less, say 1.2GB. I ran this file through Avidemux
thinking that maybe I'd see the lost content but did not. However I did
check the file properties and found that the odd file is different from the
normal files.

Under Codec4cc the "short" file is MPEG while a normal recording is XVID
"short" file audio bitrate is 48000 bps/384kbps normal file is 16000
bps/128kbps

Any idea what is happening?
Thanks

The remote will continually generate keycodes. However lircd should
be able to convert these to single commands.

You could try commenting out the repeat=5 (in lircrc) line for buttons
you don't want to repeat . or maybe change it to repeat=0.

I think repeat=5 means that every 5th command from the remote will get
sent to the application. For most keys you probably don't want a
repeat at all. For those that you do (volume, skip etc) experiment
with different numbers.

Could someone please explain to me how overscan works?

I'm using the nv driver for my xBox and the top of the
displayed screen is a little narrower than the bottom,
i.e. the bottom reaches the screen edge and the top is
inset a little.

I'm thinking that I need to set some overscan settings
in xorg.conf but I'm not really clear on what those
settings should be. I think I'm supposed to use the
"TVOverScan" option but I'm not sure of the
parameters. Note that I'm currently using 640x480
NTSC currently.

Could someone please give me a couple of pointers?

Thanks!

Ben

Could someone please explain how overscan is
configured with the nv xorg driver?

My TV Out is slightly more narrow at the top than at
the bottom. After hunting around for keystone
correction I have decided that I probably need to do
some degree of overscan. I'm currently using 640x480
NTSC. The probably is that I'm not seeing much on the
intarweb about how to set this up and I hope that
somoene has already walked this path and can give me a
couple of pointers.

Thanks!

Hi.

I am using the latest ivtv drivers and Xdriver together with my mythtv
box.

The PVR350 TVOut function is enabled in the "Playback settings"

For a long time I have wondered why I do have a blurred picture when
watching livetv and my recordings.
Recently I did disable the 350 tvout feature and then the picture
quality did get a lot better ( sharper picture)

Is there anybody that has a clue why I do get a worse picture when using
the 350 MPEG encoder. Shouldn't it result in better quality than the
software encoder?

Cheers,

Lars

Hi,

I want to use USB port on my cable box (Scientific Atlanta 2100) for
Myth TV to change channels. According to SC2100 this port is designed to
be used for remote.

My question is, if I get usb-to-serial cable, do I still have to install
lirc to change channels? Can I use only those scripts in
mythtv/contrib ?

Note that I don't need receiver configured using lirc, since I have
wireless (IR) keyboard on PS2. I've learned my remote a bunch of
keypresses, and I don't have to install anything on the OS side. :)

I have noticed that my "D" and <backspace> keys are

Have these keys been assigned as hotkeys for something
and, if so, does anyone know if there is a way that I

Thanks!

I chased video glitches from my DVB setup for ages, and with a lot of help from the list, I finally nailed it. It was the Si 3112 SATA controller chip doing nasties on the PCI bus and corrupting the mpeg stream from the DVB card.

This would correlate with your observation that it is worse with system load, in particular disk access.
I have two hard drives. If I simply cat /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 to a
file on the SATA drive, I get some glitches. If I do the same to a file
on the PATA drive, I get tons of glitches. If I do it to a ram disk, I
get a perfect recording.

So it doesn't look like it's the SATA chipset doing something nasty. In
fact, the SATA drive, being on a faster bus, gives me a better recording
than the PATA drive. This makes it look more like my original theory of
being an issue that can be solved in the DVB driver. Of course, it
could be the SATA chipset or anything else on the PCI bus, but if
something were corrupting the DVB traffic, wouldn't it also corrupt
other traffic, like disk I/O?

Instead of it being a kernel buffer that is too small, perhaps it is too
slow to pull the data off of the card?

This thread has me wondering, now. I just got MythTV going and have done some test records.

The Simpsons Halloween special recorded just fine, but it was in SD format(Recorded from the HD channel). That same night, I tried to record Law & Order:CI. That recording had a lot of breakups and qudio dropouts.

     The system is a 3.06GHz P4 with a HD3000 and a Rosewill Nvidia 5200FX.

My understanding is that recording DVB streams is not CPU intensive. The card just grabs the digital data off the air and the system writes it to disk for later manipulation/transcoding. Am I correct? If that is true, then I am casting a suspicious eye to problems with reception. I know that there is one channel that MythTV's scan didn't pick up.

So I guess my question, is how can I tell if the problem I'm seeing is trouble with recption vs. a possible system throughput issue?

Chris...
