Would it be at all feasible to use the multi-channel audio on a shuttle
cube to control 2 sets of speakers and have a simple command or control
as to which set is on, or if both are on?

i.e.

Set 1 -- Normal Left and Right

Set 2 -- Surround Left and Right

I have a multi room installation I was messing with where one pc is
connected to monitors in well eventually 4 rooms and each has a
keyboard/mouse. Two of the sets of speakers I hope to run off of
a spare dolby digital stereo receiver. The actual connections are
simple enough, I was just hoping for a way to control where the
sound goes from the computer keyboard.

I can run the connections with either a single optical connector or
individual audio connections. Basically whatever works.

Another way to do the job that just occured to me is to use a couple
car audio amp's with a remote turn on feature. Then I guess you would
need an optically isolated solid state relay to turn on each one and
connect the relays to something controllable by the pc. (I don't think
that cube has a parallel port.) Of course then you also need around a
20 amp 13.8V regulated supply and maybe a decent sized capacitor to
help with the power's stability. I'm guessing that adds up to around
$200 which makes using what I have cheaper at least.

I just thought of a simple way to do it as long as you only want one
or the other and not both. Connect to the rear channels of the 6 way
input the sound from the pc, then connect to some other set of inputs
(cd for instance) the audio from the pc again. Afterwards figure out
how to get lirc to select between the two inputs.

At any rate perhaps someone else can elaborate on the topic and
come up with something simpler.
