What I have done here is modprobed ivtv and lirc_i2c. Are you saying
that I should modprobe lirc_i2c again?

I had the same problem, and I think I just fixed it after 4 days of
playing with it. I'm not really sure how all this works or why this
worked for me, but maybe it will work for you too. My problem was
related to something with udev. I tried the fix for it that is in

I'd just put the commands in some script that runs on boot, such as
gentoo's /etc/conf.d/local.start.

Hey Nate,
I have had the same problem every reboot I have to modprobe lirc_i2c then
service lircd start then exit out of the frontend a
try modprobing it again. Even though it's already loaded, if the
lirc_i2c gets loaded first, it won't work.
