What about the distros that can use either, such as gentoo? Gentoo uses modules.conf; is modprobe.conf not compatiable with a 2.4 kernel, while modules.conf is with a 2.6? The files look so similar that I doubt it would matter very much either way. If indeed both kernels would work with both, th
