Yes - NUT is the right way. Although we may need
Hi,
I'm having some troubles using command arguments for the client checks.
This is what i have done:
- I compiled the nrpe 2.4 client with the --enable-command-args option
- I placed the new client on the nagios server and the client os
check_nrpe should understand command-args.

Hi,
I just did this a few days ago using eventhandlers, I'll post my config

Hi, I am a newbie to nagios..I have a small network which is a combination of linux and windows box.Instead of having to specify IP address of each host in the hosts.cfg file to monitor, could I specify the subnet mask or some other easier way so I could monitor all the hosts in my network..

Something of that nature, just an overview of everything showing that
it's all good.

Imagine this scenario where there are 1000's of m/cs running across different networks..Its going to be quite a tedious task to manually enter the host information eventhough each host could be using different services..
May be hosts across different network need different services to be monitored

This is still a problem. The service won't stay running for a 24 hour
period.. I don't know exactly how long it stays up, because I don't have
any way of monitoring the service without it.. Kinda a vicious cycle.
I've tried Marca Ramos' suggestion of reducing the service reaper
interval, but
It sounds like another process is using
the port. try looking for the port in /etc/services. or execute netstat
-na and see if its in use.

Are there are any errors in syslog? I'm guessing you've run out of
memory? Or maybe the nagios user has reached a ulimit for maximum
number of processes?

With NSCLIENT you can monitor
services... so just pick you SQL service and Nagios will let you know if it

Can I use commands similar to the ones below and if so does anyone have any samples from checkcommands.cfg and services.cfg?

Nothing that I see has anything to do with nagios.. a few errors about
smbd looking for a cups printer, that's about it.
I don't see any memory usage errors, either.. although, where would that
be logged? Also, how do I know what the maximum number of processes is
for the nagios user?

I was using check_dns before but it would constantly give me random
timeout alerts although dns is fine. Considering that nslookup is being
phased out anyways I decided to give check_dig a try.
It works better but seems to have a bug related to the warning timeouts. Check this out :
