I was using check_dns before but it would constantly give me random
timeout alerts although dns is fine. Considering that nslookup is being
phased out anyways I decided to give check_dig a try.
It works better but seems to have a bug related to the warning timeouts. Check this out :

This is still a problem. The service won't stay running for a 24 hour
period.. I don't know exactly how long it stays up, because I don't have
any way of monitoring the service without it.. Kinda a vicious cycle.
I've tried Marca Ramos' suggestion of reducing the service reaper
interval, but

Hello,
I stumbeled over a nasty quirk from check_procs that I compiled
from the sources.
To start, this constitutes my platform and build

Not with nagios you can't.
each host must be specified individually to be able to attach 'service
checks' to these hosts.
If all you want to do is send a ping to a bunch of servers and see if they
reply, I think there are other (more lightweight) tools available for
that.

Hi, I am a newbie to nagios..I have a small network which is a combination of linux and windows box.Instead of having to specify IP address of each host in the hosts.cfg file to monitor, could I specify the subnet mask or some other easier way so I could monitor all the hosts in my network..

Hello Ralf,
you can use APCUPSD (see http://www.apcupsd.org).
I've written a small program (which should be part of the
current distribution) that does exactly what you need.
It's called "nagios_plugin_check_apcupsd.c" and can be
found in the examples directory
