There's a check command which can check a service via SNMP. (Nagios
Exchange)
You can specify the name of the service and the number of services you
expect to see running with that name, in your case that would be zero.

Hi all,
I was wondering if there is a known solution to monitor remote servers (windows
boxes) over the internet.
The best option for me would be thru the http protocol. I was thinking that
passive check status updates are sent with normal put and get commands to the
nagios webserver.
