I have been asked by my supers to find a way to expire service ACKs
after x number of days (say, seven). Is there anything currently
available to prune the acknowledgments file in a way that doesn't break
Nagios? Or do I need to spin something on my own?

Are you sure, you are using Net-SNMP?
I believe only Net-SNMP is supporting the HOST-RESOURCES-MIB.
