Plugins are run under the nagios user for security resons, running stuff
under the user root is not a good idea.
As for changeing ownership to files related to plugins, try useing sudo
(man sudo).

n't know which operating system u're useing but changeing the
/etc/passwd file or useing the "chsh" command as root will allow you to
change the "shell".
