Make sure there aren't two or more copies of the Nagios daemon running. An older daemon might be running with the earlier configuration.

I've extended the original check_log script to return an error code until it sees a specific fixed message in the log. I wouldn't be surprised if my code is buggy or misses some corner cases, but you're welcome to give it a shot.

If you look at the Perl code (at least for the latest version of the plugin), that error message can only result when the code thinks that -H is being passed as an argument (not a switch), or as the argument to -C.
