As to the question about the interaction between escalations and state
changes we handle that in a custom notification script that stores state and
escalation level of a

instance if a host is down immediately... say give it like 2 to 3
minutes to recover before a notification is sent.
i understand how to set interval BETWEEN notifications but i dunno how
