Not with nagios you can't.
each host must be specified individually to be able to attach 'service
checks' to these hosts.
If all you want to do is send a ping to a bunch of servers and see if they
reply, I think there are other (more lightweight) tools available for
that.

Hi,
We've noticed several times that notifications from matched entries in
logfiles (via checklog.pl) are being sent hours / days after they were
written in the logfiles, and sometimes even in a time window when we had
disabled notifications.
example:
at 21/2/06, 22:00h, i stop nagios, chang
