I have successfully installed and configured nagios on redhat linux box and
now I'm trying to monitor nagios client on solaris 10 box. I've installed
nagios plugins and nrpe fine. But when try to run check_nrpe from nagios
server it gives the following error,

How can I fix this ?

i use nrpe with success but 2 or 3 time a day i have this error with
the nrpe daemon :

So we've installed the latest version of "nrpe" on a server (normal configuration). Then we installed "nrpe_nt" on a windows 2003 server machine and it works fine. We're also trying to run "nrpe" (for hosts) as a standalone deamon on a linux machine but we've compiled it without SSL (mainly because
socket time out means the plugin timed out after a specific number of time.

At a time some of them are giving this error and next time , rest of the
commands generates the error but the others becomes normal from its
previous state

once you login with ssh and run them at the command line that is fine. The
issue now is nagios times out when connecting to these servers. Any
firewalls?

Yes I have firewall since these are production server but I have rules
for nagios too

iptables -A I
temporarily all access from nagios server to access these servers

But then why it blocking some and not all nrpe commands ?

Why not drop this rule temporarily and test. If it works, then you know for
sure it is your firewall. If you need help with your iptables, visit their
site or throw this question to their mailing list.
Alternatively, you could seek commercial support.
