Using: Nagios 3.2.2.
I have a number of hosts (actually hundreds), each running a few services as
well as SSH.
For Host A, I'd like for all other notifications on Host A to be disabled
when SSH on Host A is critical. I would like to have the same behavior apply
for Hosts B-Z, each dependent on th

Double-checking the docs I think I just realized this...
If I understand this right, the "parents" option is used for Nagios
itself (prehaps better re-worded as "internally") to define the network
topology for the core host check. If the switch is down, it won't mark a
host as Down, only as Un

Parents and host dependenci
The bulk of my systems are behind one of three switches. I just went
through my hosts.cfg file and added the "parents" line and appropriate
switch name for each, but the host dependencies aren't showing up. I do
use a host template for most of the servers and then other specifics.

Jim,
I already have configured the parent relationship, and for visualization
(status map), the network structure is exactly what it is. I do now that the
host dependency works for notify exactly where the problem is, that's the
reason, I send the last message to get some help on how to set it.

I need an explain on how to exactly set the hosts dependencies, If I got a
server linked to switch and that switch linked to a router, do I have to set
the server to be a host dependent of the router or just for the switch?
If the switch fails nagios won´t alert me about the server but only for th

they have "multiple" parents. Each AP is connected to the parent

Hi,
I'm starting to monitor my Access Points with Nagios. The problem is
they have "multiple" parents. Each AP is connected to the parent
switch, which is simple, just a parent line in the APs host definition.
If the switch goes down I don't get alerted about the 15 APs behind.
The problem

Well that is what I decided to live with. For my point view is service
PING and host check is duplicated. Personaly I think that you can say

Hi,
ok tu use check_dummy for HOSTs or disable checks at all,
the problem is that the host's colour remain green when unrecheable.
I find a workaroud for it.
I define host like this:
define host{
use generic-host
host_name linuxbox1
alias

any service depends on host it is running on. I disabled all hosts
checks it by defining check_command = ho
Why any "check ping" services depend to the HOSTs STATUS?
I need that "check ping" services send notifications in case HOST
unrecheable.
How can I break this dependency ?
Thanks,
Andrea
