You cannot. Your OS's TCP stack determines what source IP to use; the base IP on the interface used to reach the destination network. Thanks to all your clarifications and suggestions - actually there were redundant routes on this host which resulted in unpredictable source-addresses when

Howdy, Actually, some versions of ping do allow you to set the source address. The version in iputils package allows you to set the IP via -I address or interface name. I don't have a machine I can test the exact situation described, but I believe it will work as desired. That's nice but
