A step-up for this voltage (12->27) should be fairly easily to make, a
generic MC34063 would do fine, or any other if you care about efficiency.

My first home brew clock was B5750s. Nice smaller tube. I built a 4 digit
clock into a Zenith "Circle of Sound" clock radio, in which the mechanical
clock had failed.
I believe it to be the very first published example of a nixie tube clock
radio. The picture was featured on the home page of
PayPal oftens pays for returns. But it might give a black mark.

I've accumulated a few DT-1704C VFDs over the years. Although I would
rather have Y1938s with their blue tint, I also really like these tubes. I
was thinking of either handwiring a prototype or trying my hand at spinning
