I think you caught it !
snmptable gives 'NET-SNMP version: 5.1.1', whereas snmpwalk/snmpget does not

Hey,
I tried to install both 5.1.2.rc1 and 5.1.1 versions
of net-snmp, but for both cases I got an error message
like:
.
/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link gcc -o snmpget

../snmplib/libnetsnmp.la -lcrypto -lm

I'm using the lib through the python wrapper yapsnmp. It uses the
netsnmp 'session' object to do the job. Whatever I put in the 'remote_port'
member of the session object, it seems netsnmp always uses 161.
After a (quick) look to the sources, it seems indeed that 'session.remote_port'

I am trying to install version 5.1.1
on Redhat 9 and I am receiving the following error:

It appears in fact that I had a snmpwalk/get exe file (coming from HP OpenView)
in my path and those were found before the ones from netsnmp ! The latter ones
do work indeed.
Sorry for the noise.

Yeh I had that exact problem yesterday. I am
ensuring today that my Linux version of RedHat 9 is complete on my
machine today.
I'm hoping that will resolve the issue and have all
the .pm module etc. This is painful especially when I'm not sure if
this is going to resolve
the problem.
I tri

But how was this installed?

In fact, the CVS version of the FAQ has already been updated to reflect
the latest versions of the SNMPv3 specifications, and this FAQ will be
included in the next release (5.1.2) which
We are doing a complete installation of linux redhat version 9 and will let
you know how the ship goes.

Hi,
I would say certainly no. SMIv2 defines some limitations on the length
of the STRING type and anyway you would not be able to carry long data
on UDP packets.
And after all SNMP is used to get only atomic info. For bulk
transfers, like a whole file, you should use other protocols, like ftp

Thank you, you were 100% correct.

If I have multiple threads of the same process running
concurrent synchronous snmpget queries, will the rest
of the threads block while waiting for a response ?
I have perl 5.8/net-snmp 5.1.1 running on a redhat9
with a 2.4.20-28.9 kernel.
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
I have a mandrake 9.2 and installed net-snmp package from the cd. i use
the default configuration and do a snmpwalk -v 2c localhost -c public
