I am on RHES5 system using latest available RH patches.
Starting snmptrapd using the following options works:
OPTIONS="-c /etc/snmp/snmptrapd.conf -Lf /var/snmp/snmptrapd.log -p
/var/run/snmptrapd.pid"
But each time the services is restarted the log file is truncated and
data is lost.

Dave,
Thanks for your help on this. I had already managed to get the
netsnmp_transport_open_server and snmptrapd_add_session calls working in my
code for port 162 before your response but it was good to get confirmation
of this from yourself.
Thanks for your time in replying.

Hi
i have a problem with snmptrapd version 5.2.3 on debian. it seems as snmptrapd
looses some traps. the trap sender and snmptrapd are running on the same
physical maschine, communicating over lo, if i capture the network packets i
see all traps send. if i configure a simple trap handler shell
Hi Dave,
thanks for your help; using your command I found out that there was
an error on the "snmpd.conf" file, that made the snmpd process to hang.
Regarding the other problem (I had a failure on a hard disk test I
implemented), I solved it disabling SeLinux on my machine.
