Hello, I am looking for someone who could help me configure some hardware I'd like to monitor via SNMP. I am using a software package called IP Switch What's Up Pro (http://www.ipswitch.com) to poll critical machines on my network. When a problem is detected, WUP sends an SMS via a GSM wireless phone connected to the monitoring machine's serial port. WUP has the ability to receive SNMP traps and you can import custom MIBs for SNMP object monitoring.
My goal is to configure WUP to poll or receive traps from servers for disk space, cpu/memory usage as well as interface issues on my router and power problems with the ups and send similar SMS messages to inform me of them. I have researched this somewhat and found the following: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/whatsup/guide/v800/6servicesa3.html#18237 http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WG-20020522-DM01.htm http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WP-20050915-DM01.htm http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WP-20050901-DM01.htm http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/WP-20050525-DM01.htm I've read through all these links and I've configured some of my hardware to send traps that I can see in WUP logs, but I just can't seem to understand how to put it all together. I purchased the O'reilly SNMP book and I've read it. I have a basic understanding of what's going on, but again, I just can't seem to connect it all. It's been very frustrating for me, but I really need to get this done. If anyone would be interested in helping me, please contact me off list and let me know what sort of rate you would charge and a ballpark estimate of how long it would take to configure a linux server, a Cisco router and an ACP ups. I have a non-critical test network that can be used that I would like start on to learn the process then I will duplicate the configuration on the primary equipment.
