Well, port search can be hacked;

Is there any way this could become default behavior, seems far more logical to
do partial searches by default, at least in our environment..?

Default size of results list (page size) can be configured, as can the options
in the drop-down, although it's global for the whole app:

https://metacpan.org/pod/distribution/App-Netdisco/lib/App/Netdisco/Manual/Configuration.pod#table_pagesize

Yes, although it may be overwritten by a future upgrade.

Certainly the partial search is slower if the number of entries in the database is large. I'd be reluctant to change the default as it has the potential to return many more results that the user didn't want.

We should be setting partial automatically if you use a wildcard in the search, though.

oliver.

Easy? I'm sorry, not really.

I think you could override the code or template in your local
installation but it's not a simple job.

You could add a tracker item in sourceforge, if it's painful not to
have this, and we may find the time to add the feature.

oliver.

Hi guys

Are there any success or horror stories of running Netdisco 2 on AIX? I
think it should theoretically work and some people would like me to try
it... they are very firm on their platform policy and even though I
recommend Linux they'd hugely prefer AIX.

Thanks
Christian

There's not much lost in trying. If you have Perl and a compiler, it
can probably be done. Other than the pre-requisites, it's all
contained in a user directory anyway.

I haven't put open source software on AIX in a really long time, but I
remember using the Bull freeware site to get as much as I could then I
built the rest from source.

I might be able to find an AIX machine to try on. What version of AIX
are you using?

Andy

Not any personal AIX experience, but perhaps useful info...

Whilst I know Netdisco 2 won't run on Windows (I am guilty of some lazy assumptions), it should work on anything UNIX-ish and indeed I develop on OS X which as a BSD variant is "not quite Linux". I feel confident that any required patch would be minimal, and I'd be happy to help in that regard.

Although Netdisco 2 is pretty much standalone in terms of its code and dependencies, it does (according to the install docs) rely on the system Perl. Depending on the setup of the OS you might want to run a separate Perl installation for Netdisco 2. This is _very_ easy with perlbrew: http://perlbrew.pl/.

regards,
oliver.

I don't know exactly what the system guys can provide, but since
postgres only has regular builds on 7.1 currently* I'll suggest they go
with that. That also probably gets me somewhat recent (I use this term
lightly) GNU tools in the add-on packages that come with the OS.

Thanks for your offer to try it. It's currently not sure yet if this
project will even take place, so please just do it if you have fun doing
so :)

Thanks Oliver, I'll report back here if this project takes place.
Although I'd assume that the issues (if any) will be in the compiled
dependencies, not the Netdisco code itself.
