I'm testing Nettle 3.7.2 on a PowerMac with OS X 10.5 . I added
-maltivec to CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS. I enabled Altivec builds with
--enable-power-altivec and --enable-fat.
Auditing the dylib it appears Altivec was not engaged:
$ otool -tV /usr/local/lib/libnettle.dylib | grep perm
