I'm using a ipw2200 wireless card. I can manually disable it by echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/class/net/eth1/device/rf_kill When the card is in this status iwlist eth1 scan reports no network at all eth1 No scan results instead the applet still shows the latest networks that were found. This
