Today I installed Mandrake 9.0 on a Toshiba laptop.
Or I tried to, anyway.
I simply used the standard install CD's (downloaded
from the Mandrake site). They booted just fine, and
the install ran without a hitch.

I'm having trouble starting X. It will start, but
after a *long* time - 10, 15 minutes.
It gives the error message:

NIC card driver (from an Intel web site). The
documentation tells me to use make install to
compile/install the driver.
Unfortunately, that command gives me the message
bash: make not found or something like that.
