have Mandrake 6.1 (a friend had it gathering dust somewhere !!) but the rpm
of this driver is said to only work with red hat 7.1 and kernel 2.4.xx

Try the noaccel option first (I'm sure Eyedeal can help you on this). That
should work fine. If this doesn't work, and you want to buy a new card,
