This seems to work for Win 2k Pro:

Go to Control panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy.
Now to Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > Send 
unencrypted password to third party SMB servers. Set to Enabled. I believe 
a reboot is necessary.
