Hi,
I am new to linux, but I think I have cracked this problem with the
Utilities menu being too long to fit on the screen. The K menu editor
was not helpful. The following worked though:

Login as root.

startx

Open two copies of KFM (On my machine this is M->disk navigator->root->
open folder.

Click until you have opened /usr/share/applnk in both KFM windows.

Here you will find the (too full) Utilities folder.

In the first KFM window, rightclick on whitespace. Choose New->Folder.
Name the new folder MoreUtilities. You need to set the permissions for
MoreUtilities to be the same as the Utilities folder. (Right click on
the Utilities folder to see what they are).

Now go to the second KFMwindow, and open the Utilities folder. By
clicking and dragging, move about half the entries from the Utilities
folder to the MoreUtilities folder.

Exit the graphical interface.

This puts me back at the command line. We need to restart KDE, so

startx

Now you are back in KDE, and you will find the K button now leads to
both Utilities and MoreUtilities, with smaller menus.

You can now use the K menu editor to move the menus around. It is quite
good at this (Middle click and drag the menu entries to whatever
position you like).

Don't forget you are still 'root', so logout now.

I would be interested to know how the Kmenu editor manages this trick.
Ie, where are the 'attributes' that determine the menu order?
