I just wanted to warn every for the goldstar 8X cdrom (580b)
I just installed linux mandrake but havent been able to do so because my
atapi goldstar cdrom somehow just died in the install process. When i tried
the text install i switched screen i got the error message from the
installer:
This is a typical newbie bummer:
I thought the grafical login was to slow so i pulled a switch and turned it
of... now i cant start the windowmanager...
How do i fix this ?

Just thought i put out a warning about an old atapi cdrom: goldstar 8X 580B.
When the packages install begins it simply shuts down and dies. the screen
handling the cdrom outputs something like "lost irq"
So if yer having a goldstar cdrom maybe it is whats making yer day so messy

I pulled a switch in kde so i wouldnt always logon in it. Now i dont know
how to start it again hehe :}

After a week and a half i have found out why my computer stalled during
install:
i loose the IRQ to my GOLDSTAR 8X atapi cdrom. why is it lost i dont know.
When the packages start installing my cd just dies. I can eventually get it
to work again by manually switching the power off and back
