You can download a port-scan program called "nmap" form this site:
www.insecure.org/nmap/
After installing it just type "nmap 127.0.0.1" and it will scan all your
system ports. Just like that. There is also a man page, so you can see all
the capabilities of this software...

I have the same HP ScanJet model and I cannot make it work under 7.0
All the HOWTO's that i find refer to SCSI scanners and I cannot seem to find
a way to work it as a SCSI.Do you mean that you used it in Mandrake 7.0 and
now you cannot use it in 7.1?

The easiest way is to press "Ctrl+Alt+Fx" where x is 1-6.
The Mandrake doesn't have the option to run in console mode when you wish it
by pressing SHUTDOWN from the login, whereas other (Caldera for example) do.
I don't know if there is a way to enable this option somehow.
