I believe this patch is included in the current CVS (incorporated in the snd-card-intel8x0 module). I installed a recent CVS snapshot, and it works great (it took me some time to figure out that I had to disable ADC/DAC loopback in amixer though!) Many thanks to Mike Pieper for that patch!
