25Meg = 25 x 1024 x 1024 x 8 bits = 209715200 bits= minimum transfer time of about
20.97 seconds Now that doesn't include all the packet headers, but we are
showing a healthy 66% or therabouts with a 30 second transmission.
But was that two machines linked with nothing else on? What

If you are basing it on throughput, then multiply throughput by 40% of your
apparent speed. TCP/IP on Ethernet has about 40% efficiency. IBM reps at a
meeting on connectivity not long ago said

OK your 100 machines are likely to talk to each other at 100, but only at 10 to
the 10s. If all your equipment were 100, then it would be indicative of a problem
to see 100s running at 10.

Hi Folks,
When I first fired up the machine, Linux detected the Ethernet card and used
it fine. The card was sold to me as a 10/100BT, but Linux is only using it
as a 10. Is there some setting I should fiddle with, or was I misled?
Thanks in advance for any info!

Well, what is the rest of the network running at? Is the hub capable of 100?
What about the other machines?
Which card is it? Many have autoswitching capability but not all.
