[newbie] 1371 sound card recording problem

Hi, all, my pc sound card is creative 1371. its output is very normal: # cat xx.au /dev/audio## OK! but it can not record sound: # dd /dev/audio xx.au # cat xx.au/dev/audio ## no sound same connection can work on Windows. what's wrong ? pls help me. thanx a lot.
