Did you create a new link from /dev/scd0 to /dev/cdrom2 (or wherever the cdrw
points to?)

Did you add

modprobe ide-scsi

to /etc/rc.local?

Did you add the

append=" hdb=ide-scsi quiet"

to lilo.conf (or to the appropriate grub menu) and reboot?

That is what it takes to make things tick..
