I'm not quite sure how Mandrake does it but I do know that Slackware (that's 
the distro I use on old stuff) uses NFS and will NOT allow a CD/DVD-drive to 
be shared.
If you've got the room copy the Mandrake directory somewhere where the 
permissions aren't too restrictive (like /home/you/ ) and try that as path.
