Recently, in a campaign resembling Hitler's assault on Stalingrad, I setup
up a PIII 450 dell with a 2 HD, dual boot, Linux situation. Mandrake 8.2 to
handle all the modern networking, cdburning etc functions and RH 5.2 to run
a deadended legacy software app. (Entropics Waves). After much work,
swapping of video cards etc., I got everything to work together until I
tried to use Entropics on the RH5.2 boot to play a sound file whereby
everything forwith locked up tight ... frozen solid. (I had to hardboot to
recover).

I am assuming RH 5.2 thinks the Soundblaster PCI 128 sound cards comes from
Mars and wants something it knows about. So I have dug up a Sound Blaster
16 Value PnP OEM Model #CT2940 which I think it might like and I'm sure
Mandrake can live with.

My question is two part:

1) Does my analysis make sense ... that RH5.2 is not going to live with the
Soundblaster PCI 128? (or am i just missing an important setup/install bit?)

2) Configuration-wise, what do I have to do to swap sound cards now that
both OS's and apps are fully installed? I'm guessing that Mandrake with
automatically recognize the new card and reconfigure.... but am pretty sure
RH5.2 won't. Can anyone tell me what I have to do?

(Note: Although I am computer savvy, I am a linux newbie so please don't
assume I know anything at all.)
