Just grabbed this from the Linuxgames web site: DOOM III Linux Client Status - posted by Crusader - Saturday Aug 14 10:48:42 2004 HomeLAN Fed's JCal, who must be the hardest working gaming web journalist (seriously, he's one of the very few I see every year, and he goes to everything), went to a round-table discussion with id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead yesterday evening here at QuakeCon, where the status of the Linux client/server port was mentioned:
As reported elsewhere, the demo for Doom 3 is in the works and will be released âsoonâ according to Hollenshead. A patch to deal with some multiplayer exploits is also due out soon. After the demo is released, id will also release a Linux dedicated server for the game and also a Linux client for the game. The id keynote is in about 15 minutes, and I should be able to interview id's Timothee "TTimo" Besset later today for additional clarification. EDIT - Saturday Aug 14 13:22:00 2004 - Just got out of the id keynote (Carmack was absent due to the birth of his son, but he did send a pre-recorded speech), where DOOM 3 lead programmer Robert Duffy said the following: The dedicated server is done and should be out really soon. The Linux client is still being worked on and is probably a few weeks away from actually working, and you know, will be released soon after that. It was also pointed out that the Linux dedicated server was being used for the deathmatch tournament here at QCon. -- /\ Dark< >Lord \/
