Hi there and thank you for your kind, helpful and supportive reply. As the card is now fitted in my spare machine I will give your suggestion a try and see if I can get it to work, then consider putting it in my main machine for a sound comparison test. But there will be a problem, no ISA slot in this new MOBO. I assume there will be adapters to convert a PCI slot to ISA. If I can find one cheap enough I may go down that road but it will still be nice to have sound under Linux on my second machine if your suggestion works.
