Tom (and list), I've seen this problem happen in at least one other distribution of Linux with the GUI also. Although I'm not advanced enough at this point to know _why_ it happens, I can tell you how I got around it... Instead of actually 'logging out' of KDE, just hit CTRL+ALT+Backspace to
