Sorry this is going to be long. I begin by installing on a spare 30G disk, unplugged main disk and installed WC300. Installation went ok but somehow missed configuration for mouse. The mouse worked fine during install but would not work at all after booting into new system(wouldnt move or react in any way).
I decided to reconnect the main drive and installed main and slave jumpers on the proper drives. Now I have 9.2 and XP on the main drive and 10.0rc1 on the slave. Of course couldnt boot into 10.0.rc1 so I attempted to get the information to reset lilo by setting /etc/fstab to mount 10.0 (sucessful). However I could not locate /etc/lillo(I know. Found out later), about that time locate decided it wouldnt work on 9.2. Gave up and reinstalled 10.0rc1 on hdb, figured that was a quick and easy way to repair lilo, it wasnt. The install failed. "Installation of boot loader failed. The following error Occured: :Fatal: Only 21 index names can be defined." Ok looks like I should try something else. So I reinstalled again this time I found an option to install grub that seemed like a good idea (It wasnt). Grub has in its menu Linux Linux-Nofb 2422-10ent 2422i686up4G10 2422-10smp 2422-1mp 2422p3smp64G10 242210sel old-linux-ncnfb 2422-10 failsafe Now 9.2 has 2.4.22mdk kernel and 10.0rc1 has 2.6.3mdk kernel. Since I installed grub from 10.0 obviously linux boots 2.6.3 which is ok but everything else also boots 2.6.3. I only tried the first 6 so I assume that is also true for the rest. fsck was run for all(I beleive) and restore journaling was also run. I did notice that there was reported a bad superblock on the 2.4.22 boot, likely the cause(but the question is why or what made it bad). If you think I am lost you should prefix that with *Totally*. That is all I know about this and I realize it isnt enough so what do I need to know? Besides 20 years of experience. Help; Hoyt
