Hail Mandrake Users,

After successfully installing Madrake Linux 9.1 in an old (Bondi Blue) iMac, I decided to purchase a second IDE hard drive, and proceeded to try and install Mandrake on my main machine: a G4 Quicksilver Dual 1.25Ghz.

Once the installation process reaches the *second stage install*, my 17-inch Apple Studio Display goes black, and the *on* button starts flashing, signalling a dead video signal. I have tried *every* possible graphical installation listed in yaboot, including *install-gui-benh*, *install-gui-old*, and several *video=* parameters (ofonly,radeonfb,ati,atyfb,atyfb128, etc.).

After many frustrating re-starts, I finally decided to try and perform a text-based install. All goes well, until I reach the section where I'm asked whether I have a *drive/scsi device*:

- I answer *yes*
- I'm presented with a list of possible drivers, from which I pick *MESH*
- I'm told that autodetection of the module FAILS, and that I'm supposed to enter parameters manually... Not being THAT technical (at all), I cannot understand what the parameters that I'm supposed to enter mean... So, installation fails - the installer tells me that it cannot find a device to setup a file system onto...

I've tried using ALL other drivers in the driver list (apart from MESH), just in case one of them might be able to autodetect one of my internal drives successfully, but NONE works (at least, not in text-install)...

So, I'm at a total loss: I cannot find a way to install 9.1 GRAPHICALLY, and I am not able of succeeding with the text-based installation...

CAN ANYONE PLEASE PROVIDE ANY HINTS OR SUGGESTIONS?

My hardware specs are:

PowerMacintosh G4 Quicksilver - Dual 1.25Ghz
1Gb RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Video Card (64Mb)
Apple 17" Studio Display (LCD)
110Gb IBM IDE drive (Master, with OS X installed)
13Gb Quantum Fireball (Slave, waiting for Mandrake 9.1...)

Many thanks in advance!

Igor de Oliveira Couto
