Just read an interesting article: http://www.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=04/11/18/2012237
It describes the dmidecode tool, and the fact that the info provided by BIOSes is not reliable. What caught my attention was the mention of Red Hat 5 installing fine, but Red Hat 6 having a problem that was eventually traced to the BIOS lying about supporting APM. This reminded me of the periodic discussions here on install problems that are fixed by specifying various combinations of NOAPIC, NOLAPIC and NOACPI. Perhaps some of the people who have had this problem could run dmidecode (you have to be root to do so; no command line arguments needed) and see what it reports. I'm curious. -- Ron ron dot hunterduvar at shaw dot ca Opinions expressed here are all mine. Rights to have the same opinions are granted under the GNU GPL :^)
