I am having some problems getting xawtv to work in Mandrake 10.1 Official (installed using the dvd edition). I can get the zapping and kdetv applications to work, however they behave unreliably and settings (from ntsc to pal; from us-cable to some other country setting) often change between launches. I had the card working properly under v9.2 and since it is working somewhat for kdetv I do not believe it is a problem with the capture card.
When I configure the card using the 'Configure your computer' tool, I select "NTSC", "US-Cable", and "Nobody". The channel scan seems to exit prematurely, too.
The device shows up in the configuration tool like this:
Identification Vendor: Brooktree Corp. Description: Bt878 Media class: MULTIMEDIA_VIDEO Connection Bus: PCI Bus PCI #: 1 PCI device #: 5 PCI function #: 0 Vendor ID: 4254 Device ID: 878 Sub vendor ID: 112 Sub device ID: 5099 Misc Module: bttv
The card shows up as an 'Other Multimedia Device' with the same settings.
What I have noticed:
->The /home/username/.xawtv file is empty, I cannot get the configuration to 'stick'. When I hand-edit the file and make it look more 'stock', it does not seem to improve the situation.
->When I launch xawtv using the console or the menu, the application will launch, display no video, and play the audio from the last selected channel (the last zapping or kdetv session). The application window is unresponsive and I have to kill it to get it to stop.
The version of xawtv I am running is 3.93, installed using the urpmi tool.
When I run xawtv -hwscan I get this output:
# xawtv -hwscan This is xawtv-3.93, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.8.1-12mdk) looking for available devices port 60-60 [ -xvport 60 ] type : Xvideo, video overlay name : video4linux
port 61-61 type : Xvideo, image scaler name : Intel(R) 830M/845G/852GM/855GM/865G Video Overlay
/dev/video0: OK [ -device /dev/video0 ] type : v4l2 name : BT878 video (Hauppauge (bt878)) flags: overlay capture tuner
I have tried removing and reinstalling xawtv, installing from other sources, and reinstalling the OS. I have not been able to locate helpful information online. I have not had much success with each of these approaches, hopefully someone on this list has some information that will help me out.
Thanks in advance!
Paulo
