I recently upgraded from Mandrake 6.1 to 7. I have all settings the same for
my network, but i couldn't get it to work for a long time. Finally i tried
turning on DHCP. Now when i turn on my linux box, it searches the network
and finds my windows machine that has a DHCP server running. Then it assigns
it the address of 192.168.0.2 (since the windows one is 192.168.0.1). If i
turn the DHCP off, then the machines can't ping each other. The same thing
happens if i shut down and restart the network from within linux. (with
ifconfig eth0 down and ifconfig eth0 up). It worked in 6.1!!!!! What is
going on here?
