How do I check which version of Mandrake (not Kernel, not KDE etc) is

Your login screen should tell you. If you're machine's booting right
into KDE, you can use the key combo CTRL-ATL-F2 and every other function
key up to 6 to switch among your other terminals. It should give you a
nice penguin and Linux Mandrake version... Use CTRL-Alt-F7 to get back
