[newbie] Mandrake on portable hd

Hi all, I'm new for linux. I would like to know if is it possible to install linux on a hd portable usb 2. Without lilo. My notebook have the boot from usb. I want to know how it is possible. Now I have two partition FAT32 on the hd portable. Thanks Nico _
