Seems that I am replying to my own request for assistance. Although, no one ever replied with help from my previous request. I have to say that with a bit more internet suring and alot of trial and error that I figured it out for myself. It seems that the "ls" with Mandrake is dynamically linked to other files. These files have to be in the "bin" directory in order to function properly. So if anyone else encounters problems like I had, this is the answer.
