Netscape is a little buggy, that's well documented; what exactly is
going on when it freezes?  Have you made your changes and then you're
surfing along and it freezes or do you click on preferences and it
freezes right then?  Possibly it's trying to resolve it's host and
you're trying to get it to do something else at the same time?  Maybe
make sure it's completely done loading and you're sitting on your home
page then do your editing (when it first loads, it will have the
irritating splash screen that won't go away until you do something on
screen; that will have to finish before you can do your thing).  One
final thing, try starting netscape with -no-about-splash option.
