Wow, I solved it! Instead of using the "all.gz" ramdisk image I used the all-benh.gz ramdisk image. Then it again asks to select a SCSI driver, and then mesh.o works perfectly on my PPC 5500/275.

So I set up this:
In the options of BootX: Selected RAM disk image "all-benh.gz"
and the "kernel arguments":
root=/dev/ram3 ramdisk_size=40000 install-gui automatic=method:cdrom

I'm going to replace "install-gui" with "install-text" to get the stuff installed. With the graphical installer all is messed up.

I now have a graphic problem. It seems Mandrake doesn't support my ATI Rage II chip. How do I solve that? Maybe I should try to solve it after the install...

Hi all,

This is the problem:
After booting from the RAM image provided on the CD-ROM of Mandrake Linux 9.1 PPC I see a nice text gui telling me that no CD-ROM drive can be found, and asks me to select a SCSI driver. Then I get a list with dozens of drivers. I have tried two of them: the internal/newworld SCSI driver and the external/oldworld SCSI driver. For both I can type "arguments", but I let that empty because I didn't know what that was. Both drivers doesn't work.
I have a PowerPC 5500/275. Some specs:
275 MHz 603 processor
64 MB of RAM
Internal SCSI and ATA bus. CD-ROM drive is at the SCSI bus at ID 3.

I have read a forumpost of someone with the same problem with a PPC 8600 or something like that. Does anyone have suggestions?

PS: The applescript with BootX on the CD does not work properly. Luckily I could find the information on how to configure BootX manually on the forum.

Thanks for reading this mail!

Leen
