[newbie] PATH Statement

This may have something to do with my inabilities to run Open Office easily: All the Linux books I have read seem to indicate that the PATH statement should be in my .bashrc file. But none of the .bashrc files on my system have a PATH statement in them. Should I add one? Regards, Chuck --
