howdy, i'm trying to set up powerchute for linux to run with an APC back-UPS 500 so 
that it will shut down my system if the power goes out.  

it is attached on com1 / ttyS0

it is working under windows just fine

the powerchute for linux installed good except that the software requires total 
control of the port that it is on, and it seems that there may be something else using 
that port which would explain why i can not communicate with the UPS.

so my question is -- how do i go about finding out what is using ttyS0?  if someone 
can at least point me to the command or program that would do this i can probably 
start to puzzle it out.  no need for long detailed instructions -- yet -- let me mess 
it up first, then i'll be back.    =)
