[newbie] Printer won't print ?! Yes!

Hi!  Forget my following message (with 2.4.0test5 and same configuration ok!):

When i use kernel 2.4.0-test4 instead of 2.2.15 that comes with Mandrake 7.0 / 7.1 (i've recently upgraded) my printer doesn't print any more.  No problems come out; it just does nothing.

My printer is a Lexmark 5700, and i use a modified ghostcript 5.10 that recognizes it (in bw mode); if i try to uninstall ghostcript 5.50 that comes with Mandrake 7.1 rpm says it isn't installed (and it appears in the list under kpackage).

So i can't either install or uninstall ghostcript... any idea?
