I remember about the time of MDK7.1, that if you called Gateway, gave them the serial number of the unit, and said "someone installed linux on this" and that automatically ended the warranty. did not matter if it was ten minutes old, or if linux had anything to do with the problem or just how you found the problem, installing linux on a Gateway computer ended the warranty.
